For 18 years, Sil Casas had been general manager of the Sparks/Reno office of The Invironmentalists (formerly known as DuPont Flooring Systems) when the parent company offered to sell the assets of the business to him.
In March 2005, Sil and Roddy Casas began providing floor covering products and installation services under their new name of Contract Flooring & Interior Services, Inc. The company brings more than 150 years of experience to the table and specializes in a full range of commercial and residential carpet, resilient flooring, laminate, solid and engineered wood as well as ceramic tile.
"In addition to providing our customers with product expertise, we consistently strive to improve the installation process," says Roddy Cases, President of Contract Flooring. "Floor covering -- generally being one of the last trades to join a project--is often faced with a number of unique challenges. To overcome those challenges, Contract Flooring dedicates time to develop our own installers' capabilities, leadership and professionalism as well as to work with the general contractor and other trades to cooperate for the benefit of the end user."
Contract Flooring's commitment to quality and service begins in the first phases of a job and continues throughout. Through the experience of its employees, the company is able to assist both architects and builders in selecting the products best suited for the specific aesthetic, functional and maintenance requirements. Contract Flooring has worked on design-build projects ranging from $20,000 to more than $1 million. While roughly 55 percent of its projects fall within the $5,000 to $50,000 range, 15 percent total more than $150,000.
"Whenever we have the opportunity to participate in the design-build process - or similarly, in the reengineering process - we pride ourselves in achieving our customers' goals," says Casas. "These solutions include being an active part in the scheduling process, identifying potential risks and mitigation strategies, and acknowledging that there is a give-and-take-relationship among all trades and general contractors." Among Contract Flooring's significant achievements is the Carson Tahoe Hospital - a new construction that required medically rated installation and materials specifications as well as an adherence to the facility's calming aesthetics. "It's a beautiful hospital", says Casas. "The whole building was designed to have a very holistic, non-hospital-type look. That approch was used all the way through to the floor covering."
While Contract Flooring has generally been associated with commercial work, Casas says the company offers the same level of quality and service to custom residential clients. "We want to be a one-stop shop for the custom residental builder," she says. "The same things that make us successful in the commercial market - the focus on customer service, quality installation and product knowledge - are going to make us successful in the residential arena."
While the company continues to enjoy an environment Casas describes as pleasantly busy, a continued emphasis on quality will surely generate more of a buzz as its growth continues.
"I think one thing that probably sets us apart is that internally we continue to strive to do things better," Casas says. "We constantly evaluate how we're successful and where we didn't succeed and how we can improve on what we're delivering to our customers - whether it is the final installation, delivering the best products to suit their needs or helping them obtain solutions that are matched to their requirements."
